Why local SEO matters more than "SEO"

Your Google Business Profile. For most local searches, this is what people see before they ever reach your website — your name, categories, service area, photos, hours, and reviews. An incomplete or inaccurate profile quietly costs you visibility and trust before a visitor clicks anything.
Your website's local structure. Search engines need to understand what you do and where you do it. That means clear service pages, an accurate service area, and content that actually describes your business — not generic template copy that could belong to any business in any city.
Reviews. Review count and recency are a real signal, both to Google's ranking and to the customer deciding whether to call you or the next result. A steady, honest review habit beats a one-time push for fifty reviews in a week.
What doesn't move the needle
Keyword stuffing, spun content, and directory-submission spam are all still sold as "local SEO" by some agencies. They don't work reliably, and some of them actively hurt you by making your site look manipulative to search engines. If a recommendation includes "we'll build you 200 backlinks," be skeptical.
